Lana Del Rey completed the US leg of her LA to the Moon Tour at Waikiki Shell in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 28. Lana mixed up the setlist by dropping ’13’ Beaches’ as the opening song, choosing to open instead with ‘Summertime Sadness’. Lana also sung ‘High by the Beach’ and ‘Shades of Cool’.

Back in Austin, Texas, some fans requested Lana sing ‘Wayamaya’ and Lana said she’d do it during her show in Hawaii. However, Lana decided to not perform the song.

Lana took some time to greet fans outside Waikiki Shell before her show started. She spoke with them, took some photos and gave away some free hoodies and food, including fresh pineapple.

Lana Del Rey performed at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California on February 15. As usual, Kali Uchis opened the show, but Lana mixed things up a little by playing “West Coast” for the first time on this tour. Lana also sung a snippet of “Get Free” and brought back “Serial Killer”.

Whilst Lana was meeting her fans at the barrier, she gave some of her famous gold heart necklaces away to a few lucky fans. Watch the video here!

During “Get Free”, Lana got emotional listening to her fans sing the song back to her.

Lana recently talked about what this song means to her in an interview for World Cafe. She explained the “I’m doing it all for us” lyric is for Amy [Winehouse] and Whitney [Houston]; two of the names she has tattooed on her collar bone. She added “it’s about people who don’t get to reach their full potential because they let controlling people stop them from being free.”

Lana’s sister Chuck was also in attendance at the show. Be sure to check out Chuck’s Instagram story for footage from the concert!

Lana Del Rey is on the cover of California Style magazine for their March issue. She spoke to Lesley McKenzie about living in LA and finding friends and inspiration there, as well as how she’s over her obsession with old cars such as the 1950s pickup. Lana also talks about being in a happy place, following her dreams and how she warms up for her shows with rehearsals and meditation.

The interview is accompanied by a gorgeous photoshoot photographed by Victor Demarchelier and styled by Alison Edmond. Below you can find some snippets from the interview!

California has been a source of inspiration for Del Rey in the last few years, often from behind the wheel of her truck (“It’s brand-new, it’s not a nostalgic, 1950s pickup,” she quips. “I’m over my old-car obsession—I’m happy with Bluetooth”), driving along the Pacific Coast Highway. The tony San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, which was devastated in the winter mudslides, was always a favorite destination for Del Rey to recharge.

“I’d say the last two years have been relatively peaceful,” says Del Rey of her current frame of mind, which has since seeped into her work. “I think that’s kind of why my newer record has a little bit of a brighter tone to it, whereas before I was definitely working a lot and on the road 24/7,” she says. “I’m still traveling a lot but I had a lot more to work through a couple years ago, I guess.”

That shift in perspective shines through on ballads such as “Change,” the last song Del Rey wrote for the album, which addresses the fact that she was seeking change in her life but didn’t know how to go about it. “It was just more like a small bubbling of wanting to turn things around aesthetically in my art and personally as well. I really like the idea that life imitates art and I’ve noticed that in my own work. I knew that good things could follow if I put it out there that I was still trying to grow.”

On February 13, Lana Del Rey performed at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, with Kali Uchis as her opening act. Lana sang snippets of ‘Terrence Loves You’ and ‘Get Free’ towards the end of the show. Someone asked if she’d sing ‘Angels Forever, Forever Angels’ and Lana responded with “Angels Forever? Are you kidding?!”

Chris shared that the pit at the front was so bad that Lana’s personal security had to stop people from shoving. Lana mouthed to them “I’m so sorry.”

Of the pit, Chase Connolly tells us “multiple people passed out” and the shoving was so continuous that it made him “practically miss the first two songs”. However, he adds that it calmed down after that.

Chase also explains that Lana sang ‘White Mustang’ whilst laying on the piano with her legs up. “After ‘White Mustang’ she sang an a cappella snippet of the song and said “sorry, I’m feeling myself tonight””.

Before she sung ‘Yayo’, Lana explained some background to the song: “This is a song I really like to do about an old friend of mine who isn’t with us anymore. His name was Rob and we used to live, uh, well I lived in New Jersey, he lived in a different part of New Jersey. I remember one day he came back with the most giant snake on his back and I was like, “what the hell did you do??” It’s funny, like, within 10 minutes – I couldn’t really play chords, so I sort of made up my own chords, and I wrote a little song for him.”

Ed Masley wrote a smashing review of Lana’s performance for AZ Central, explaining that her Lana Del Rey persona was in “full effect” as she was “channeling Brigitte Bardot” in her fishnet stockings.

Masley also took note of how considerate Lana is of her fans: “Del Rey did something I have never seen at an arena. She spent the next eight to 10 minutes signing autographs, posing for selfies and accepting flowers, notes and presents from the fans down front, who camped out overnight to score those spots.”
