Lana Del Rey will be presented with the ASCAP ‘Global Impact Award’ at the 35th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards on April 23 in Los Angeles, California.
ASCAP, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, are the “world leader in performing rights and advocacy for music creators”.
Paul Williams, President President, commented: “Although Lana Del Rey is the recipient of the ASCAP Global Impact Award this year, her sparkling soundscapes and crisp storytelling are anything but of this world. Lana’s art allows us to step into a technicolor dream, where endless possibility is the only rule. Lana casts an ethereal glow across all she touches, leaving us all excited for whatever spellbinding path she ventures on next.”
In February, Lana Del Rey announced she was working on something with British musician Miles Kane (of The Last Shadow Puppets) during a Radio 1 interview. However, Lana wouldn’t reveal anything further, saying it was for a surprise.
Flash forward to now, April 6, where Miles Kane was interviewed by Evening Standard yesterday. He revealed that his upcoming solo album would feature some big names including Lana Del Rey. He says: “We’ve written a lot of songs together. One of them is on this album, and it’s f***ing great.”
Kane’s upcoming album ‘Coup de Grace’ will be released this summer, though an official date hasn’t yet been confirmed.
Update (16/4): Lana Del Rey doesn’t sing on the album, but instead co-wrote the leading single ‘Loaded’ with Miles Kane and Jamie T. Read more.
After completing the Australian leg of her LA to the Moon tour, Lana Del Rey departed Sydney via Sydney International Airport on April 3. Her tour will continue in Europe, with the first show in Italy on April 11.
On April 2, Lana Del Rey performed at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney Olympic Park in New South Wales, Australia. BORNS opened the show. Lana mixed up her setlist by keeping in ‘Gods & Monsters’ and adding ‘Dark Paradise’ and fan favourite ‘Serial Killer’.
Albert, who got “Happiness is a butterfly” tattooed on March 31 before Lana’s Melbourne show, also attended this show. He says, “After lining up for over 28 hours, tonight I got to experience seeing Lana Del Rey live, front row and centre stage!”
He also explained how Lana noticed him and told the rest of the front row about how he got his new tattoo: “Mid-song she motioned to me to show her my new tattoo that she wrote, and later came down to the barrier and told the crowd how I got the tattoo the other day.”
